Q: I use a Third-Party Processor. Why should I have my own merchant account?
It is a fact—when you have your own merchant account you own the data and are free to do as you please with respect to marketing, pricing, scrubbing, billing etc. You set the parameters and we will make it happen.
Q: How do start accepting credit cards on my website?
There are two ways you can proceed. One is by contacting us by email, telephone, or ICQ. The other is to look for the Prequalification Application form in the “Forms” section of the website. Fill in the required information, scan the document and email it to apply@maxpayments.com. Once your application is approved, we will open a new merchant account for you at one of our corresponding banks.
Q: What credit cards will I be able to accept?
This will depend on the industry. For example, American Express and Discover will not accept Adult Industry merchants, but Visa and MasterCard will. Be certain that Maxpayments will allow you to process the maximum amount of card-types permitted.
Q: My business was marked as "high risk". Can I still use your services?
When your company has a history of bad credit or you produce a high amount of credit card chargebacks (over 1%), your processor might suspend all services and your merchant account may be closed by your bank. This means that your company is a high risk business. We accept many of such high risk businesses with some conditions, so please feel free to contact us to discuss your options.
Q: Are there any limitations on monthly sales volume?
We do not have limitations regarding your monthly sales volume. High-volume businesses are also accepted.
Q: What is a chargeback?
A cardholder may dispute a credit card charge for many reasons. This is referred to as a "charge back" to the merchant by the cardholder's bank. The cardholder is within his/her legal rights to begin procedures to dispute the charge up to six months after the date of sale, although in some cases the charge may be disputed up to 3 years after.
Q: Can I accept currencies other than USD or EUR?
Currencies that we process are USD, EUR, GBP, CHF and DKK. For any additional currency please contact your sales representative.
Q: How can I lower my rate?
Our processing rates vary from 4% to 8%. You will be assigned a rate based on your industry type, monthly sales volume, desired holdback period, and chargeback ratio. High risk businesses (pharmacy, adult, gaming) are always assigned higher rates due to their risk factor. We monitor our accounts periodically and will lower your rate if certain criteria are met (such as low chargeback ratio, higher volume over time, etc.).
Q: Will I receive statements of all transactions?
On-line transaction reporting is available 24/7, providing up to the minute, detailed information that merchants can use to confirm payments, identify processing problems, and other issues. You will be able to login to our systems and print out statements or see your entire history of transactions in real-time.
Q: I want to apply. How long does the whole process take?
Once you fill out our online application, our underwriting team will review your information and contact you with further instructions. The entire process of setting up your new merchant account should not exceed 14 days.
